Reiki and Practitioner Healing Support
by Tanya LeiperYou might think that this is obvious, but I had previously felt that asking for another practitioner’s help would be admitting that I was not doing a good enough job with my own self practice and I always had that phrase ‘healer heal thyself’ in my mind.
Now on reflection I know that this was not very helpful and more than likely it just resulted in self-pressure and energy blocks.
So, what pushed me to ask for help?
Well having overdone things, I managed to pull muscles in my lower back and the timing of this was not great since it was just a few days before I was due to travel south to sit my side saddle riding exams.
I took things easy during the week and gave myself plenty of Reiki with the result that my back was starting to loosen up. Then during the night before I was due to travel, I rolled over in bed and somehow managed to pull further muscles and the following morning, I felt quite a lot of discomfort around both my lower back and right hip areas.
I had put a lot of work into my exam preparation, and I knew that if there was any chance of my being able to ride to a sufficient standard, I needed help.
Fortunately, my wonderful brother is also a Reiki Master and since one of the beautiful things about Reiki is its distance treatments I knew that I would not have to cancel or change my travel plans.
I was not the driver, so I was able to just sit back and relax while opening myself to receiving a Reiki treatment from my brother during the journey and as the day went on, I started to feel slight loosening within my back muscles.
The following morning my brother kindly sent me another Reiki treatment and this along with a good night’s rest meant that I only required the addition of mild pain medication to be able to not only ride without issue but also to enjoy the riding session which was simply marvellous.
The next morning before my ridden exam, I received a further Reiki treatment, and my brother reported that although he still felt Reiki drawing strongly to my back and hip it was less than the previous day.
I know the benefits of Reiki and even still, I marvel and feel extremely grateful for the improvement that was achieved to my back and hip areas within such a short period of time.
And you will also be able to gather from the huge smile on my face within the attached photograph that I did indeed pass my side saddle riding exams.
So why did receiving Reiki from another practitioner have a much more profound effect than my own self treatment?
It would be easy to start doubting myself and my general ability to share Reiki, but I think that the simpler truth is that I was getting in my own way since I had put so much time and preparation into the exams, I had a lot of emotional investment in them.
My brother on the other hand had no emotional investment in the circumstances other than being happy to help and he was consequently able to hold a more neutral and effective healing space.
I wanted to share this story since we don’t always know or recognise when we are getting in our own way or the consequent energy blocks that we may be creating for ourselves and sometimes the help of another Reiki practitioner who is able to hold that more neutral healing space is all that is needed to clear the way for us.
I am hugely grateful to my wonderful brother for his support, and I feel extremely blessed that both he and Reiki were there when I really needed them.
