Preparing Our Animals for Firework Season
Sue Cherrington – Animal Reiki TeamReiki can be a wonderful addition to your animal’s wellbeing. Rather than waiting until fireworks begin, offer regular Reiki in the days or weeks beforehand. A calm, familiar routine can help your animal associate Reiki with safety and relaxation.
On the evening itself, Reiki should always be offered, never imposed. Allow your animal to choose whether they want to be close to you, receive Reiki from a distance, or simply rest nearby.
Trust their instincts and let them guide the session.
Practical measures can also help:
- Keep cats indoors before dusk and exercise dogs earlier in the day
- Close curtains and windows to reduce flashes and noise
- Provide a familiar, safe space where your animal can retreat
- Play calming music or gentle background sound
- Remain calm yourself, as animals are sensitive to our emotions
Every animal is an individual. Some seek comfort; others prefer quiet space. Reiki encourages us to respect those choices and meet each animal where they are.
As we move through the seasons, perhaps we can remember the little beetle: notice more, judge less, and recognise that every creature has a place in our shared universal community.
