METHODOLOGY

Authors reviewed research papers published between 2014-2016 on the effects of Healing Touch (n=11 papers) and Reiki (n=19 papers)
In Reiki: Wide range of study designs and sample sizes ranged from 10 to 213 (some with selfreported effects of Reiki). Many were in people with cancer, pain or other serious illnesses. Assessment of whether Reiki had an effect on stress and anxiety took place.

RESULTS AND COMMENTS

General impression from the various studies is that Reiki may have a positive effect on stress and anxiety or may not. This is due to the variety of conditions participants had which could interfere with making a clear conclusion.
