Supporting the Next Step

by Anne-Marie Carratu
Over the past year, I’ve found myself having more and more conversations about confidence.

Not confidence in Reiki itself, that is rarely the issue. Most of our members have a deep trust in the energy and in their own lived experience of it.
What comes up more often is confidence in stepping forward. Confidence in saying, “Yes, I am ready to be recognised.” Confidence in putting work forward for accreditation.

Confidence in allowing someone else to look at what you have created and say, “This meets the standard.”

In this sense, education is not just about knowledge. It is about courage.
When we began developing our new online learning platform last year, with Duncan Cross at the helm, my hope was quite simple. I wanted the process of CNHC verification and course accreditation to feel clearer. Less mysterious. Less dependent on who you happen to speak to. More supportive. More transparent.

Reiki is gentle. Our systems should feel that way too.

At the same time, clarity matters. Standards matter. When a member carries the UK Reiki Federation name, it should stand for something consistent and trustworthy. Not rigid. Not intimidating. Just steady.
The new platform has helped us bring structure to what was, at times, quite a complex process. It guides practitioners step by step through CNHC verification. It supports teachers in submitting courses for accreditation in a way that is organised and fair. And perhaps most importantly, it removes some of the uncertainty that can quietly hold people back.

Recently, I spoke with a member who said, “I wasn’t sure I was good enough to apply.” That stayed with me.

None of us step into Reiki to collect credentials. We step into it because we feel called. But professionalism is not the opposite of calling, it is one of the ways we honour it.

This is why I am particularly grateful to have Donna now having joined our assessment process. She brings calmness, care, and a genuine respect for the work our members do. Assessment should never feel adversarial. It should feel like a partnership in upholding quality. Together with Duncan and myself, Donna is helping us strengthen that tone.

Education within the UKRF is not about ticking boxes. It is about protecting the integrity of Reiki while helping practitioners grow into their next level of confidence.

We want our members to feel supported, not scrutinised. Guided, not judged. Encouraged, not overwhelmed.

At the same time, we remain clear about standards, because standards protect everyone. They protect the public who place their trust in Reiki. They protect practitioners who work ethically and diligently. And they protect the reputation of Reiki as a professional practice in modern Britain.

My intention, as CEO, is that our education processes feel human first and structured second. Both matter. Both are needed.

If you have been considering CNHC verification, or wondering whether to put your course forward for accreditation, I gently encourage you to take that step. Not because you “should”, but because growth is part of the path.

Reiki teaches us that small, consistent steps create lasting change. Our role is simply to walk beside you as you take them.
