Building Bridges Across Europe
by Gavin FordAs many of you will have seen in the most recent ERG newsletter, there is a quiet but undeniable strengthening taking place across the European Reiki landscape.
It is a real privilege to now write to you not only as a UK representative, but as President of the European Reiki Group. Holding that role carries responsibility, certainly, but also a deep sense of possibility. What happens at a European level directly influences how Reiki is understood, positioned, and supported within the UK. And equally, the strength of UK Reiki contributes to the credibility of Reiki across Europe.
This is not about hierarchy. It is about alignment.
Across the February newsletter, we see tangible examples of this shared momentum. Monthly online meditation circles continue to connect practitioners beyond borders. The next circle, hosted by our brand new member My Reiki Italy, reflects something important: expansion rooted in relationship. These circles are not simply events. They are demonstrations of what happens when independent organisations choose connection over isolation.
One of my key commitments when standing for President was clear: to bring more European organisations into active participation within ERG. Not for numbers. Not for optics. But for strength.
I am therefore delighted that Italy has now formally joined us as a full member. My Reiki Italy, led by Federico Scotti, brings depth, cultural richness, and a genuine dedication to traditional practice. Their involvement strengthens the whole field.
And this is just the beginning.
We are currently in advanced conversations with several other European countries. I cannot yet share details, but I can say with confidence that there is appetite across Europe for collaboration, for standards, and for a shared voice. There is recognition that Reiki, to remain respected and protected, must be both spiritually grounded and organisationally coherent.
The newsletter also highlights the wider context in which we operate. Discussions around regulation and professional standards through EUROCAM. Research initiatives in Portugal with an expanding academic database of over 1,050 studies. Preservation of Reiki history and pursuit of official recognition in Germany. Conferences in Bulgaria. Community gatherings in the Netherlands. Twenty years of dedicated service in Romania.
These are not isolated projects. They are strands of a much larger tapestry.
As President, my role is not to centralise power. It is to facilitate connection. To ensure dialogue remains open. To encourage standards without erasing cultural identity. To build bridges strong enough to carry us collectively into the future.
For UK practitioners and UKRF members, this European strengthening matters.
- It matters when we advocate for Reiki in conversations about regulation or recognition.
- It matters when research is cited.
- It matters when healthcare institutions ask, “Who stands behind this practice?”
- It matters when international alignment brings clarity to standards and ethics.
- A strong ERG strengthens UK Reiki.
- A strong UK strengthens ERG.
There is something deeply aligned between the work taking place within the UK Reiki Federation and the momentum gathering across Europe. Foundations being strengthened. Structures clarified. Communities woven more tightly together.
Reiki itself teaches balance, integrity, and connection. Our organisational evolution must reflect the same principles.
As we continue through this year, my intention remains simple: steady expansion, thoughtful collaboration, and respectful dialogue. Not noise. Not ego. Just consistent strengthening.
To serve as President of ERG is an honour. To represent the UK within that space is a privilege. And to know that the UKRF stands shoulder to shoulder with growing European partners is, I believe, significant for the future of Reiki in this country.
We are not simply participating in a European conversation. We are helping to shape it.
And that, for all of us, should feel quietly powerful.
