I remember my first experience with Reiki very clearly. I was on a ward in the hospital where I worked and there was a lady giving Reiki treatments to patients. She was so gentle and kind and I witnessed some very acutely unwell mental health patients benefit greatly from the time she spent with them. I had just qualified as a sound therapist and I was very interested in the benefits of using complementary therapy methods in a clinical setting. I teamed up with a group of clinicians and together we got nursing staff trained to use Reiki on the patients and each other to help them manage stress and anxiety. The results were fantastic with incidents of violence and aggression falling by 50% on inpatients acute wards. There was also less staff absence.
Since then I have gone on to train as a Reiki Master and also to use all forms of sound therapy with Reiki as well as using mindfulness and stress management techniques. I have 30 years experience in management and administration in both the private and public sector and look forward to assisting the UK Reiki Federation as secretary
