Results of the Consultation on the Federal Approach to Regulation
(Prince’s Foundation for Integrated Health)
The results of the Foundation's recent consultation have now been published
providing a clear mandate to move forward with a federal approach to regulation.
The consultation document "Exploring a federal approach to the voluntary
self regulation of complementary healthcare" was open for consultation
for a three month period from May to July. The results were independently
analysed and the consultation report is now available on the Foundation's
website . A feasibility implementation study was carried out concurrently
with the consultation, identifying the key issues that would need to be considered
when developing a federal approach to voluntary self regulation, and outlining
recommendations for the way forward. This is also available on the Foundation's

Based on the consultation's findings and the feasibility report, the Foundation is establishing a working group to consider in detail two different approaches to a federal structure for voluntary self-regulation. Both approaches involve a council that maintains a register of practitioners admitted to practice. The first option broadly follows the approach used by the Health Professions Council and the second option is based on an approach used for complementary healthcare in Canada.
The Foundation is now inviting the profession specific groups currently on
the regulation programme to participate in the working group. An independent
lay chair is being recruited for the group and membership will include representation
from the public. The work will be project managed by the Foundation.
With this in mind the Reiki Regulatory Working Group has
to decide whether to accept this invitation to participate and we (the UK
Reiki Federation) would ask members to send us their views at the earliest
opportunity via vsr@reikifed.co.uk
The Management Committee of the UKRF is in support of this proposal, but we would like to hear from our membership with regards to this; please quote your membership number when responding. Please note that due to resource implications we will be unable to send back individual responses to individuals, but would appreciate your comments by the end of October 2006.
