The UK Reiki Federation
“SETTING THE AGENDA FOR THE FUTURE”
As
reported in the UK Reiki Federation Development Newsletter edition 18,
the Federation was honoured to send representatives to the May 2003
launch of the Prince of Wales’ Foundation for Integrated Health’s
5 year Plan ‘Setting the Agenda for the Future’. It was
also a privilege to meet Prince Charles in the beautiful, highly ornate
setting of St James’s Palace.
Kay Zega, Chair, very much appreciated the opportunity to talk to His Royal Highness about the UK Reiki Federation and to answer his questions regarding the origins of Reiki, how it works and how it differs from other healing modalities that he mentioned.
Interested bystanders listened intently to the discussion, and subsequent conversations with NHS Chief Executive Officers illustrated the extent to which their Primary Care Trusts were becoming increasingly more open to the integration of complementary therapies into traditional healthcare.
His Royal Highness’ launch of the Foundation for Integrated Health’s 5 year Plan was attended by 170 leading practitioners, researchers, and educators from conventional and complementary medicine, as well as by government representatives, together with Sir Nigel Crisp, Chief Executive of the NHS. The Reception provided a unique networking opportunity for representatives at strategic levels of operation to discuss, with peers from both traditional and CAM fields of provision, the extent to which complementary and alternative therapies are being integrated into service provision within their sphere of operation. In this respect it was heartening to witness such clear intention among those present to embrace complementary medicine. It was also most interesting to hear from 2 members of the World Health Organisation that the WHO were considering a resolution calling for complementary therapies to be integrated into mainstream care.
In addition to launching POWFIH’s 5 year plan, the Reception also focused on Regulation, and both Prince Charles’ and Sir Nigel Crisp's speeches mentioned that “The key challenge in the next 5 years lies in getting the message of an integrated approach to healthcare into the community and in giving everybody - patient and professional alike - the means to make the kind of informed decisions that will give them access to the best possible choices."
We in the UK Reiki Federation support this integrated approach to healthcare
and, at our last AGM and Festival, we agreed that “The main energies
of the UK Reiki Federation be focused towards Voluntary
Self Regulation”. In this respect, we continue to invite all
of our members to send positive thoughts, for the highest good of all
concerned, to aid the process.
