Introduction
Established in 1999, the UK Reiki Federation is one of the largest
independent Reiki organisations, renowned for its standards of excellence
in the practice of Reiki. We offer opportunities for ongoing personal
and professional development, provide networking and co-ordination links
within the Reiki community and publish a register of professional Reiki
practitioners.
Our Vision
The UKRF is committed to promoting exemplary standards in the teaching and practice of Reiki through research, constant evaluation and continuous improvement, as well as positive contributions towards the process of Voluntary Self Regulation of Reiki.
We continue to embrace all styles of Reiki within the Federation and
encourage respect for the differences in belief and opinion that abound
within the Reiki community.
Our Core Values
The UK Reiki Federation encourages mindfulness that the practice of Reiki is, at all times, supported by regular self-treatment and by personal and spiritual development.
Our Aims and Objectives are:
- To federate individuals who are attuned to Reiki and who practise Reiki
- To provide advice, support and an information network to the Reiki community, professionals who work with/alongside Reiki and to the general public
- To promote best practice in the delivery of Reiki to the public, to provide a form of recourse, and to be part of the world-wide Reiki community
- To create maintain and evaluate professional standards of training for practitioners of Reiki
- To carry out research and provide education and training to support this
- To represent a collective voice within the field of Reiki through which to instigate and maintain a dialogue with relevant external agencies
- To provide details of and promote mutual understanding, communication
and good relations between different styles, systems, schools and
lineages of Reiki within the UK and internationally.
Our Contribution to Setting Standards of Excellence
Originally set up as a national umbrella organisation for education, training and guidance in the public practice of Reiki, the UK Reiki Federation has a respected Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice and Disciplinary Procedure to which all of our members adhere.
Conscious of the emerging need to regulate the practice of Reiki following the House of Lords Report on Complementary and Alternative Medicine (2000), the UK Reiki Federation was involved in the development of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) templates for National Occupation Standards (NOS) in conjunction with Skills for Health (formerly Healthwork UK), the standards setting body involved in the setting of standards which underpin qualifications in healthcare.
We asked our membership for their views on what should comprise minimum standards of Reiki training and practice, and have drawn up a draft core curriculum discussion document. It is our belief that these proposals, together with responses since publication, may help to play a part as the Reiki community moves closer to Voluntary Self Regulation.
We are indebted to Rosie Andersen and Léonie Clark (and to
members of their teams) for the enormous amount of work undertaken in
developing these documents.
Continuing the Momentum
Reiki is one of the fastest growing natural therapies in the world and our members frequently speak of the wonder of witnessing – and having played some part in – the phenomenal increase in awareness of and demand for Reiki.
With the growth in popularity of this incredible healing modality comes far greater scrutiny, with concomitant need for transparency where personal integrity and professional practice are concerned, robustness in training and continuing development, and accountability in the event of unprofessional practice. Hence the UK Reiki Federation’s commitment to working towards Voluntary Self Regulation.
