As reported previously, the RRWG had withdrawn from the Federal Working Group (FWG) and the proposed Natural Healthcare Council (NHC). The RRWG meeting in January was called to review other available options, and presentations were given on each. For details, please see:

Reiki Awareness Week 2008

This year’s event will be held from 8-14 June 2008 inclusive. Members are invited to send in details of their events to the office in order that these can be included in our promotional materials. If you are planning an event and would like to receive some promotional notices then please send A4 envelope marked “RAW Information Pack” to the UKRF office. Information will be available from end of February 2008. Please remember to quote your membership number.

VSR update

The RRWG has withdrawn from the the regulatory process within the FWG (Federal Working Group). The UK Reiki Federation supported this decision.

Vetting and Barring Scheme

The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Bill received Royal Assent on 8th November 2006. The overriding aim of the new scheme will be to help avoid harm, or risk of harm, to children and vulnerable adults. It aims to do this by preventing those who are deemed unsuitable to work with children and vulnerable adults from gaining access to them through their work.

Cheque Fraud and similar scams

Some practitioners have recently brought to our attention the fact that they have received enquiries from individuals via this website pretending to be genuine clients whereas in fact the enquiries turned out to be part of a scheme to steal money. Typically the practitioner is sent a large cheque from overseas (often Nigeria) from someone who appears to be a genuine client and asked to present it and then pay a proportion of it from their own account to (for example) a "cousin" of the sender in the UK. The cheque turns out to be stolen and is later cancelled and the practitioner's account debited for the whole amount, even though the cheque apparently 'clears'.

Fortunately in the instances we have heard about the member spotted the nature of the transaction in time. However please be aware of these sorts of approaches and treat them with extreme caution.

We temporarily disabled the contact form facility on this website because (a) it might have given the misleading impression that the person trying to commit the fraud is somehow approved by UKRF, which of course they are not, and (b) it appears that a mass-mailing mechanism may have been used to 'mail' practitioners automatically.

Update:
We have now put in place a new and more secure contact form facility on this website. This will stop all but the most sophisticated automated 'form-spammers', but it will nonetheless be monitored closely for any evidence of abuse. We would ask all members to please advise us immediately if you receive any message via the form that looks as if it might be a mass-mailing of some kind. It will be obvious in the message that it has been sent via the form - please don't forward us any other spam, we get more than enough already!
